If you love taking your e-bike out for a ride, you’ll know that the little display on your handlebars can use some protection too!
I made this simple crochet cover to slip over the display when your bike is parked or stored.
I also attached a little keychain ring to mine, so I can keep my bike key right there with the cover. It’s a quick and easy project, perfect for using up some scrap yarn and a fun way to add a handmade touch to your bike.
Materials
Yarn: Scrap yarn
Crochet hook: Adapted to your yarn weight
Keychain ring
Tools: Scissors and a tapestry needle
Stitches used (US terms)
ch – Chain
sc – Single Crochet
Foundation chain
Chain 13 or adjust the number of chains to match the width of your own display. Make sure the cover isn’t too loose so it stays nicely snug around the screen.
Crocheting the base
Start in the second chain from your hook.
Work 12 single crochets.
Don’t turn your work. Simply rotate it so the bottom of the foundation chain faces upward.
Work 12 single crochets along the underside of the chain.
Crocheting the body
Continue working in rounds of 24 single crochets until the cover fully reaches the top of your display.
Attaching the keychain
Keep crocheting until you reach the center front of the cover.
Place the keychain on top, with the ring exactly where you want it to sit.
Insert your hook through the keychain ring and the next stitch of the cover. Make a single crochet.
Repeat this across the full width of the keychain ring.
Crochet a few more stitches to finish the round.
Finishing Touches
Cut your yarn.
Slip stitch and gently pull the yarn through the loop to fasten off.
Sew an invisible faux stitch for a clean finish.
Sew in your ends.
